We are delighted to update you further on Forma’s international touring programme this Summer.

July sees the world premiere of Gina Czarnecki’s Contagion in Brisbane, Ryoji Ikeda’s installation data.tron in Auckland and the New York debut of works by Lynette Wallworth.

QUT and Brisbane Festival 2008 present the world premiere of Contagion by Gina Czarnecki, from 19 July to 3 August at QUT’s Creative Industries Precinct. Contagion is Czarnecki’s new interactive video installation, a powerful work about images, perception, surveillance, human interaction and bio-security. The work not only refers to the viral spread of disease, but also to the spread of ideas and information. Contagion models the spread of a highly infective virus amongst present, past and future visitors, using rules and behaviours based on the epidemiology of SARS and Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza. Czarnecki collaborated with epidemiologists and other scientists to gain a deep understanding of the evolution and science of contagious disease. This data is processed to create a rich, complex and constantly evolving visual system accompanied by an atmospheric sound score by electronic musician/composer Christian Fennesz.

Through editing sound and image at a micro-level, Czarnecki constructs vivid, highly aesthetic spaces. Her work engages the viewer through its scale, beauty and through interactive technologies. You can find more detailed information on Gina’s website,

Ryoji Ikeda continues international touring of works from his datamatics series with data.tron at the MIC in Auckland. Data.tron is an audio-visual installation whose large scale confronts the viewer, and whose content forces us to consider the purity of mathematically produced data, which touches on the sublime.

Following her French debut at the Aix-en-Provence Festival which opened last month and closes 23 July, Lynette Wallworth’s interactive video installations Invisible by Night and Hold: Vessel 1 & 2 will feature at the Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival at the end of July, and constitute her first exhibition in New York.
